Caribou and Jacques Greene Remix Radiohead

This coming week sees the first installment in a series of 12” releases featuring remixes of tracks from Radiohead’s most recent album, King of Limbs. LIsten to the tracks above—a Caribou remix of “Little By Little” and a Jacques Greene remix of “Lotus Flower”. Both are utterly incredible, to be quite honest. You’ll be able to grab both physical and digital copies of this one directly via the band’s store starting Monday.

Mix of the Moment: Portishead - ‘ATP I’ll Be Your Mirror London Mixtape’

Coming July 23 and 24, the folks with All Tomorrow’s Parties will be throwing the London edition of their new sister festival, I’ll Be Your Mirror, featuring curators/ headliners Portishead. As a preview, the act has put together a mixtape, featuring cuts from the majority of their outstanding lineup, which includes Doom, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Beach House, Liars, PJ Harvey, and Caribou. The overall tone is to some extent a bit brooding, but makes for a great overall listening experience, especially if you’re a fan of heavily-contrasted sound and a good challenge for your ears. You can download and listen to the mix below, and be sure to check out the track listing—there’s quite a lot of something new in there. Meanwhile, for tickets and more info about this event, go here. And of course, if you’re stateside, ATP will also be bringing I’ll Be Your Mirror to Asbury Park, New Jersey from September 30 to October 2, and will feature a similar lineup, Portishead included.

Friday’s extra flavor is a bit of secondhand that came late in the day, but it means a little something new for you all. I’ve got about as much info on these guys as you do right now, but it’s always nice to have some homework to do. This is a San Francisco-based band called The Soft Moon who are, by all accounts, damn awesome. I have a terrible soft spot for shoegazer, and this one comes with a huge no wave streak, so I’m glad to hand this one along just on first impressions alone.

It’s New Radiohead Day!

Radiohead | The King of Limbs

New Radiohead day always feels like a holiday for some undefined nation of music nerds, and today is no exception. You can purchase a digital copy or pre-order a physical copy of the album, King of Limbs, directly from the band’s website here.

Meanwhile, dig Thom’s funky dance moves in the video for their first single, “Lotus Flower”.

Speaking of last week, the Strokes finally dropped the first single off their long-awaited fourth album, Angles. Titled “Under Cover of Darkness,” the song is first peek at a possibly reformed band (reminiscent of the Is This It days, believe it or not). After the debacle that was First Impressions of Earth, it makes sense that they had decided to take their time on this next release, and this first taste is certainly bittersweet, if not hope-inspiring to some degree. Weather the remainder of the album will pan out remains to be seen, but at least for now, they’ve managed to make discerning ears perk up once again. Though the single itself is no longer freely available via the band’s own website, this one is streaming pretty much everywhere, and is still easy to grab if you can’t wait for the whole shebang to drop on March 22.

Yeasayer Release Free EP for Valentine's Day

Just in time for the day we all love to hate, Yeasayer has decided to embrace the love and release a free EP, featuring their song “I Remember”, along with two fairly tasty remixes. Grab a copy for yourself, send one to someone you love, and definitely check out the video for the album version of the song. It’s at least worth a giggle.

A Guide to Roger Waters: The Wall Live

A week ago, I had the very great privilege of getting to see Roger Waters perform The Wall Live in San Jose, after being gifted tickets by some very good friends who couldn’t make it. I’m still processing the sheer magnitude of the performance as everything else now pales in comparison—by quite a wide margin. Tonight is his final date in the states, so if you’re missing it, here’s a taste … and if you’re feeling ambitious, the rest of the world gets to tear down the wall through June 2011.
