Out Today/ Tomorrow: Martyn | ‘Ghost People’

You can now hear an an exclusive stream of the new album from Martyn, Ghost People, via the good folks with Mixmag. This is Martyn’s first full-length foray out of the world of his own label, 3024, finding the producer on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint.
As is to be expected, these tracks pretty clearly straddle that ever-dissolving line between the worlds of dubstep and techno (and even house, in this case), and sound like someone’s been listening to a lot of old school Detroit techno in the last year. As it is, there’s very little Martyn makes that doesn’t sound clearly derivative, but he does so with such skill that it would be hard to fault him for making his influences plain. This isn’t a stale-out-of-the-box throwback, but rather an incredibly refreshing rehashing of some crowd favorites that are very dancefloor-friendly.
The album is out today and tomorrow, October 10/11, depending on where you live, and is already available via Bleep (who’ve written a particularly interesting review of the album). Meanwhile, you can preview the entire release below.
Gotan Project | ‘La Revancha En Cumbia’

For lovers of Latin-infused electronic music of any variety, Gotan Project’s seminal La Revancha Del Tango was a landmark album. The effortless fusion of tango with downtempo was infectious to the ear, and easily made the body move. There’s been little else like it since, and though Gotan have released quite a lot of material in the interim years, nothing has had quite the very same impact as that first album. So it is that, in La Revancha En Cumbia, we find a bevy of emerging artists from the next wave of Latinized electronic music—the makers of what has come to be called Digital Cumbia—returning to the original material, and bringing their new approach to the Gotan sound. The resulting remixes are startlingly good, and breathe new life into the original works in ways that sound effortlessly timely; this is a remix album that truly could not have happened until now, and though there is very little that might improve on the brilliance of the original, the new take is incredibly refreshing, indeed. Check out the samples below, featuring remixes from Chancha Via Circuito, King Koya, and El Hijo De La Cumbia. This one hits stores October 17/18.
The latest remixes from Julio Bashmore are sounding pretty excellent right about now (and yes, despite how they’ve been named, they are brand spanking new). The man lays hands on Deadboy’s banger from back in 2009, “Heartbreaker” for Brighton-based label Housing Project (a sub-label of Well Rounded). The “2009 Mix” finds Julio giving the original the footwork treatment, while the “2010 Mix” pushes the tune into some proper house territory, with both sounding tempting, indeed. You’ll be able to find this one out on October 3/4.
P.S. For those of you who are curious, peep the original track from Deadboy below.
Mano Le Tough | ‘Stories EP’

The latest effort from Mano Le Tough looks like it’s going to be absolutely gorgeous. Titled the Stories EP, you can find it out on London imprint Buzzin’ Fly on September 19/20. For now, check out the samples below.
NPR Music First Listen | Beirut | ‘The Rip Tide’

This year has been particularly dry when it comes to good new indie rock; given how saturated last year’s listening market was, it seems only fair, right? Tell that to Beirut, whose upcoming album, The Rip Tide is bringing us all a welcome bit of excitement in this musical lull. Thanks to NPR Music, that lull ends right now, as you can listen to a full-length preview of the album already—because August 30 is just too far off! So, what does it sound like to us here? We’re going with victory.
In the meantime, make sure to check out Beirut’s tour dates here, and you can also pre-order physical album copies (which come with an immediate download).
Check out the video for latest track from Dam Mantle, titled “Not A Word”. It’s coming out on his new EP, We, which will be available on July 25 as the first release on Get Me! Records. You can also stream the entire EP over at Dummy Magazine. Meanwhile, you can already preorder physical copies via Boomkat.
It’s a good day when there’s something new from Kelpe in the wings. The producer is set to release his first-ever 7”, titled “Same New Era” on July 11 via the somewhat-mysterious MYOR Records. The single also features a B-side remix by Sonar 2011 opener Niño. Check out the utterly nonsensical video for the A above, and below, a higher-quality version of the whole release. In the meantime, if you’re too impatient for the wax, you can already grab the whole thing via MYOR on Bandcamp.
