Gotan Project | ‘La Revancha En Cumbia’
For lovers of Latin-infused electronic music of any variety, Gotan Project’s seminal La Revancha Del Tango was a landmark album. The effortless fusion of tango with downtempo was infectious to the ear, and easily made the body move. There’s been little else like it since, and though Gotan have released quite a lot of material in the interim years, nothing has had quite the very same impact as that first album. So it is that, in La Revancha En Cumbia, we find a bevy of emerging artists from the next wave of Latinized electronic music—the makers of what has come to be called Digital Cumbia—returning to the original material, and bringing their new approach to the Gotan sound. The resulting remixes are startlingly good, and breathe new life into the original works in ways that sound effortlessly timely; this is a remix album that truly could not have happened until now, and though there is very little that might improve on the brilliance of the original, the new take is incredibly refreshing, indeed. Check out the samples below, featuring remixes from Chancha Via Circuito, King Koya, and El Hijo De La Cumbia. This one hits stores October 17/18.
The latest remixes from Julio Bashmore are sounding pretty excellent right about now (and yes, despite how they’ve been named, they are brand spanking new). The man lays hands on Deadboy’s banger from back in 2009, “Heartbreaker” for Brighton-based label Housing Project (a sub-label of Well Rounded). The “2009 Mix” finds Julio giving the original the footwork treatment, while the “2010 Mix” pushes the tune into some proper house territory, with both sounding tempting, indeed. You’ll be able to find this one out on October 3/4.

Caribou and Jacques Greene Remix Radiohead
This coming week sees the first installment in a series of 12” releases featuring remixes of tracks from Radiohead’s most recent album, King of Limbs. LIsten to the tracks above—a Caribou remix of “Little By Little” and a Jacques Greene remix of “Lotus Flower”. Both are utterly incredible, to be quite honest. You’ll be able to grab both physical and digital copies of this one directly via the band’s store starting Monday.
Releases We Love: Toro y Moi | ‘Still Sound Remixes’ EP
If you’re familiar with the ultra-smoothed out and lush sounds of Toro y Moi, but would love to hear something from this camp that’s been pushed in the direction of house music, the Still Sound Remixes EP is right up your alley. Featuring two remixes from Londoner Toby Tobias and one from the brilliant (and as yet unknown) Paris-based Voodoo Bear, this one is especially great for lovers of wide-spectrum sound. Vinyl copies of this one are limited, but can currently be found at Boomkat as well as Bleep (where you can also cop a digital copy if you so prefer). Check the listening samples below—there’s even a full preview of the Voodoo Bear remix via his Soundcloud page (which definitely deserves its own attention—hint hint).

Yeasayer Release Free EP for Valentine's Day
Just in time for the day we all love to hate, Yeasayer has decided to embrace the love and release a free EP, featuring their song “I Remember”, along with two fairly tasty remixes. Soul Clap and Tim Sweeney for Beats in Space
Oh funky funky house—you always seem to lead back to all things lovely and oldskool and … then I’m reminded that the post-italo disco days of 80’s and 90’s weren’t so bad after all. When you return to my ears in such fondly-remembered and remixed form, history repeating itself starts to look pretty good.
