If you haven’t already been doing so, keep your eyes peeled for pretty much any and all things Blawan. There’s little to be said that can’t be better explained than actually listening to him, so check out his mix for Fact below, and you can find his mix for Boiler Room over here.

Adult Swim | ‘[Unclassified]’
It’s been three years since Adult Swim dropped the Ghostly Swim compilation in conjunction with Ghostly International, so it’s been only a matter of time before they would bless us with another comp of stellar tunes. Earlier this week, they released the free-to-download [Unclassified], which features tracks from most of the more long-standing movers in bass music (is that the least contentious name at this point?—ed). As is to be expected, there are works from Burial, Zomby, Kode 9, Ikonika, SBTRKT, and, the list goes on, really. Standing at the top of a pile of familiar names, however, is relative unknown Dauwd with the dubby and bright “Ikopol”, built for lovers of a properly-executed slow jam at house tempo with a footwork-style beat. In other words, hot. Check it out below.
Meanwhile, you can grab the entirety of [Unclassified]—for free—directly from Adult Swim.

New White Label from Jacques Greene

After dropping one hell of a stunner remix on us all in the first in a series of offerings being commissioned by Radiohead, Jacques Greene once again graces our aural palettes, this time with a mystery white label 10”, on offer only via Boomkat. The samples of this one (which you can hear below) sound like the addition of some much-needed color to what has slowly devolved into the bland, indistinguishable mélange of bass music (or post-dubstep, depending on who you ask). His sound is neither overly bright nor pale in its tone, but rather subtle such that each transition tickles the ear, rather than bombarding it, resulting in some highly danceable, but still very musically literate compositions. In other words, watch this one; he’s going to be doing big things.

In the meantime, there’s no news yet on if or when there may be a digital release of this one, so if you’re eager for something a little extra special, this is pretty much your one and only chance.

P.S. You can also check out some higher-quality samples of this one here.

At this point in time, it’s pretty fair to say that Om Unit has the Midas touch, so hearing that he’s got an upcoming release with Kromestar on brand new label Cosmic Bridge Records is incredibly exciting. With so many solo-man efforts in the dubstep/ post-dubstep world, it’s outstanding to see this push back toward collaborative works from two producers who have made it known that there is nothing static in music. We could very well begin the arduous process of discussing the evolution of genre right here in fact, as this is the place where the definitions become the most unclear, and the music the most exciting. Keep it up, sirs.

Events to Love: Fixup - Comma ‘Colortronics’ Release Party

This Thursday in San Francisco is officially going to be poppin’, so you may as well just plan on calling in sick on Friday, especially if you’re a bass head. 222 Hyde is hosting the final edition of Fixup, which will also be a very special release party for Comma’s Colortronics EP. (And if you haven’t already grabbed this one, you really should—you can even get a copy on a purple cassette tape!) Featuring support from DJG (Surefire), Epcot (Frite Nite), Fixup’s own Psych Tyson, and a special guest (we have our theories), this night looks set to own. Purchase tickets here—this space has very limited capacity.

And as an aside, if you were also looking forward to seeing Luke Vibert at Public Works that same night, the news looks not so good. Unfortunately his visa was delayed, and the event has been postponed. If you purchased a ticket, expect to see a refund shortly.

Today’s Music Buy.

It seems like it’s recently become a tradition for me to buy new music every Friday, so I’m going to start sharing my buy lists when I can. Typically I look for stuff on Bleep, though I definitely do hunt at Boomkat, Clone, and various other distributors. If I go for vinyl, I buy it locally—shipping that stuff gets expensive, quick.

Today’s cache:

Various Artists | Back and 4th | Hotflush

Hatchback | Zeus & Apollo | Lo Recordings

2562 | Fever | When In Doubt

Om Unit | The Corridor EP | Terrorrhythm Recordings

Julio Bashmore | Batty Knee Dance EP | 3024

Dolphins Into The Future | …On Sea-Faring Isolation | Not Not Fun

Deepchord Presents Echospace | Vibrational Studies (In Echospace) / Symbolism in Transition | Modern Love

Dorian Concept | Her Tears Taste Like Pears | Ninja Tune

Oh and by the way. If you’re interested in knowing more about what I’m listening to lately, find me on last.fm and Twitter.
