Watch Gillian Welch perform “The Way It Goes” off her first album since 2003, The Harrow & The Harvest, which came out last week. If you haven’t gotten an opportunity to hear her before, now’s an excellent time to start, as her whole album is one hell of a contender for album of the year. Gillian and her writing partner David Rawlings are masterful in their ability to write a proper country song—or in this case ten—and we’re not talking over-produced pseudo-country pop that one hears on the radio today, but rather the real deal. The emotion is raw, the musicianship is outstanding, and boy does this one bend your ear like no other. The Harrow & The Harvest is something made of long drives and break-ups and those days when you just need music that feeds your soul, really. Get this one, and don’t let go.
